In 2002 Essex Police asked me to design a character based on an
idea from schoolchildren in a campaign against spiking drinks
and date rape drugs. Spike the hedegehog was developed from
Sgt Nigel Dermott's concept and the cartoon character emerged into
a rather evil and vicious hedgehog. This was taken on with relish
by several other police forces in the UK and abroad and Spike developed into a bit of a cult figure.
